Earth Day 2024

Earth Day 2024

For more than half a century, Earth Day has been celebrated on 22 April to raise awareness of our shared responsibility to preserve our natural environment. To mark the occasion, we are inviting groups of pre-school and school children on Monday 22 April and families on Saturday 27 April to join us and our partners in a series of themed activities to showcase the living world.

On 27 April, you can learn about different ways of recycling waste materials at the AKSD's stand and the eco-craft stall, and you can also listen to the Debrecen Music Festival's garbage can concert. There are giant interactive eco-games at the Green Circle, and live storytelling and street theatre performances to show young and old why it is important to protect the waters of the blue planet and to collect waste selectively. There will also be a guided tour of our endangered species, and families can take a scavenger hunt of their own with a worksheet. There's also a full programme of activities, including a cat walk and a penguin show up close, as part of the all-day Animals in Action. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

On 22 April, three age-appropriate zoo education sessions will be offered to registered groups from kindergarten to high school students, who will learn about responsible animal husbandry and zoo conservation through hands-on experiences, but also explore the wildlife of five continents through a self-paced game of worksheets.

All programme elements are free of charge with zoo admission.
